A few days ago, Aston Martin announced that Sebastian Vettel will officially stay with the team in 2022. The German is now driving his first season for Aston Martin after Ferrari refused to renew his contract.

There have been rumors that Vettel might retire after this season, but nothing could be further from the truth. We’ll see the former world champion on the grid again next year. Lance Stroll will remain Vettel’s team-mate in 2022.

Does Vettel still have a chance for a title?

In the live blog of Motorsport-Total.com, Ralf Schumacher comments on the 34-year-old driver’s contract extension. “When Aston Martin can finally fight for the title, I no longer believe that Vettel will drive in Formula 1. For Aston Martin, I see that as negative at the moment,” Schumacher was quoted as saying.

According to Schumacher, there are teams that have better chances of winning a title in the near future. “Others are better positioned, for example McLaren.” However, Schumacher is happy that Vettel is not leaving Formula 1 yet. “He now wants to move on – and I think that’s good, also for us in Germany. At this point in his career there are only two options: Either I stay with the family or I keep going. ”So Vettel has opted for the latter. It remains to be seen if he will ever have the chance to start the World Cup again, but things could change with the new regulations coming into effect next year.
