Formula 1 | Vettel suggests F1 help green promoters

Vettel suggests F1 help (...)

Sebastian Vettel hopes Formula 1 will take the measure of responsibility that comes with his newfound popularity. The Aston Martin F1 driver would like owners to help Grand Prix organizers find solutions that reduce the environmental impact of the discipline.

“Any type of event that attracts a large crowd must live up to the responsibilities that come with our times,” notes Vettel. “Obviously we attract big crowds in Formula 1. I think the sport has become more popular in recent years with new fan bases, especially in North America.

« It allowed him to develop. But with that there are more people who have to go to the circuits, who have to be managed when they are on the circuits. So yes, there are a lot of things to do, as with other major events.

“Obviously how people get to the event, public transport is not only an important topic in general, but also the journeys between events, so there are a lot of things we can do.

« We should take some of the turnover or money that Formula 1 in particular makes and try to reinvest in the promoters and give them the chance to find a better, greener and cleaner solution to manage the public. and the Grand Prix.

Vettel asks F1 ‘relevance’ question

The quadruple world champion reiterates his desire to see Formula 1 play its pioneering role. The German still thinks that it must be more relevant for new technologies, including hybridization and synthetic fuels.

« At the end of the day, it doesn’t make a big difference whether we’re racing cars, hosting a music concert, or doing other things, watching the general public and the footprint of the public themselves. But it comes back to the question of relevance.

« And if we don’t find a way to actually help be the change, and make sure everyone benefits from what we do for fun, and the engineering innovation that comes with it, so I think very soon the question will arise as to what our purpose is. »

« We understand the interest, because we like it, we are motorsport enthusiasts, and you don’t have to explain it to us. But if you focus on that and you speak to an audience which has nothing to do with motorsport, I think these questions will come up in the future. »

‘ And I think they will land rightfully. So it’s up to us to be in the lead, to be one lap ahead and not get overtaken, so to speak, with the enormous power That we have. »

« We spend a lot of money in motorsport, but it involves a lot of innovation, engineering and power that can be channeled in a better direction, so that everyone, even outside of motorsport, benefits. one day, whether the answer is electric, or hydrogen, or whatever. »
