Former F1 driver Marc Surer says Lance Stroll’s treatment is unfair. According to him, the Aston Martin F1 driver is solid against his teammates, even if he is beaten. The Swiss believes he is doing a good second alongside top drivers.
“Lance Stroll is better than people think” declared Surer, recalling the feats of arms of the young Canadian. « Don’t forget he also achieved a pole position. He can do that. »
He’s not a super talent like a [Sebastian] Vettel or a [Fernando] Alonso is a number 2 driver. He’s not bad and he’s good enough to score points. After all, he proves it again and again, with a car that is bad at the moment. »
Surer insists that Stroll could show off with a better car: « He’s not collapsing as blatantly against Vettel as you might expect. So he fulfills the no. 2 driver function. »
« If you compare him to McLaren, he’s in a better position. Stroll is closer to Vettel than [Daniel] Ricciardo is close to [Lando] Norris. If the car was a bit better, Stroll would also be consistently in the points. »
