Aston Martin F1 probably started a small fire in the design offices of competing F1 teams.
Indeed, with its rear wing which circumvents the spirit of the regulations but is completely legal, there may be a way to regain aerodynamic downforce via this appendage which has been extremely standardized by the FIA for the 2022 season. .
At Alpine F1, we recognize that the solution is interesting.
« I promise you there’s already the other nine teams trying this in CFD (computer simulation) right now and if it’s faster you’ll see nine more I imagine, » confides Alan Permane, the sports director.
« I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen if it works and it’s completely legal. »
« I understand the point of view on the intent of the regulations, but we just want to go fast and be reliable, so it’s really up to the FIA and Formula 1 to agree. If they have circumvented the intent rules i doubt there’s anything that can be done about it this year maybe for next year but i’m pretty sure if it’s faster then you’ll see some very soon much more. »
Same opinion for Ferrari, which nevertheless has the fastest single-seater on the board.
“I think the same as Alan,” replies Laurent Mekies. « He did the best summary. If the FIA says it’s legal, everyone will try it. And if it’s faster, it will happen in other F1s. »
