Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel disagree on Aston Martin F1’s strategy, which consisted of putting on soft tires at the very end of Q2. Stroll supports his team’s decisions, despite the gamble it was.
« I think it was still the right thing. We had more than a second lead until turn 16 where it was wet and I blocked the front right » said the Canadian. « Turns 16, 17 and 18 were pretty wet so I don’t know how much time I would have lost in those corners, but I was gaining a lot on the rest of the lap, it was the right thing to do. »
Stroll now hopes to be able to get back in the race to get points: « We have good pace to fight for the points tomorrow and I’m sure we’ll be in the top 10. »
Vettel, for his part, was already in doubt when the decision was made. With hindsight, he finds that it would have been more prudent to put on a new set of intermediate tyres, as all his rivals have done.
« Now that we know the result, it was not a good idea! We tried, but it’s a shame because we could have gone to Q2 with a new set of intermediate tires, it would have been the best option. safe » sorry Vettel.
He hopes to be able to come back tomorrow from the last part of the grid to aim for a good result: « The race pace seems good, we’ll see what we can do. We start from a distance and it’s difficult to overtake, so I hope there will be rain. »
