Felipe Drugovich recently signed a third driver contract for 2023 with Aston Martin F1, and he has confirmed he will drive the AMR22 in Abu Dhabi. Thereafter, he will drive in the end-of-year tests, and also details his 2023 program.
“I want to be in Abu Dhabi. I will do the EL1s and the end-of-season tests there” declared the 2022 F2 champion. « I’m going to be the reserve driver next year for Aston. Obviously this year it’s still Nico, but I’m going to be the reserve driver for next year. »
« I’m going to do some FEL1s, some testing with the 2021 car, so I’m very excited. I think it’s something that will really set me up to maybe get a steering wheel in the future. I think I deserve it. and I’m really looking forward to being as prepared as possible to make it count. »
Next year, Oscar Piastri and Nyck de Vries, also former F2 champions, want to start in F1. Drugovich wants to be inspired by them: « I’ve seen these guys, they’ve done a lot of testing and preparing, so they’ll definitely be there from the first race next year. I’ll try to be on the same page. »
Winner of five races this year, he explains why Monaco has a special place for him: « I would say Monaco, Barcelona and Zandvoort have been very good for me, but if I had to put one on the board it would be Monaco. »
« First of all, because it was a special race for us. But I think this race was quite difficult. I had some problems with the tires and luckily I was in Monaco, so it was difficult to pass there. I really had to push not to make mistakes and it was amazing to win. »
