FIA sets date for Aston Martin’s F1 disqualification hearing

FIA sets date for Aston Martin

The FIA has announced that members of the Aston Martin team will be asked to appear before a video conference call to discuss the case on Monday, August 9th at 3pm BST.

Aston Martin believes it has discovered “significant new evidence” that was not available at the time Vettel was excluded from the Hungaroring results.

Vettel had finished second behind Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, but a post-race inspection of his car revealed that it did not have the minimum liter of fuel required by the FIA to conduct legality checks.

The team insisted that the fuel flow meter calculations show that there was enough fuel on the car to pass the controls, but it was all about extracting it.

In light of the Aston complaints, the FIA decided to seize Vettel’s car and transport it to its technical facility in France for further investigation if necessary.

The team’s data showed that given the amount of fuel in the car when it started and the amount of fuel logged by the FIA’s fuel flow meters, there should have been 1.74 liters in the tank.

However, the FIA was only able to pump out 0.3 liters after the GP, 1.44 liters were not taken into account.

Team principal Otmar Szafnauer told Motorsport.com on Sunday evening that the team believes the car’s suction pump has failed, which is compromising efforts to get fuel out of the car.

Aston Martin not only pushed for a right of review based on the significant new evidence that was discovered, but has filed a separate complaint on the matter.

It is believed that the appeal could partly focus on the team being able to replace what they believe to be a defective suction pump with an identical new one and thus get the fuel out of the car again.

Monday’s FIA hearing will first determine whether the new evidence Aston Martin has uncovered will be accepted as grounds for a re-examination of the penalty.

Only when the stewards are convinced that the evidence is significant and relevant and has been discovered will they then hold a new hearing to examine the specific case.
