At the 2006 Turkish Grand Prix, 19-year-old Sebastian Vettel drove a Formula 1 car for the first time. Since then, there has been no turning back for the German, who is one of the most decorated F1 drivers in the history of the sport.

Vettel is a four-time champion who is currently in his 14th full season in Formula 1 with Aston Martin. Although the German has come a long way from his first test with BMW Sauber, a recent tweet brings back memories of that day in Istanbul.

Vettel was a test driver for the BMW Sauber team in the 2006 Formula 1 season. At the Turkish Grand Prix, the team gave the German the opportunity to test the car in the practice sessions on Friday, August 25, 2006.
Vettel quickly took the opportunity and led the timesheet in the second training session. Although the German had to wait another year to start his first race, he couldn’t hide his joy in the interview after the session.
Vettel said: “It was amazing, it was amazing! I mean, I can’t even find the words to describe it because the feeling I just had on the first lap was just something completely new. “
The German also spoke passionately about the car and told every bit about his first experience. “In the beginning it was about shifting in the right place, not too late because of the enormous power of the engine,” said Vettel.
“On the straight, it’s just acceleration like hell, it was incredible, as was the braking. After a couple of laps I got a little confident and then I just learned what the brakes could do and it was amazing! Also the deceleration, it was like someone kicking you in the head. It is wonderful!”

Although Vettel had problems in the first four races of this season, the German got back on his feet after strong performances in Monaco and Baku. After finishing 5th in the Principality, he took his first podium with Aston Martin at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
