F1 seat chance for De Vries shrinks after Albon news from Williams

F1 seat chance for De Vries shrinks after Albon news from Williams

Just a few days ago, Nyck de Vries’ chances of a seat in Formula 1 in 2022 seemed very good, but with Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi, who have now been confirmed by Williams for next year, there is only one place left for the Dutchman . Will this chance still come in Formula 1 or will it pass again under De Vries’ nose?

Formula E world champion De Vries had been linked with a move to Williams, but has now confirmed his drivers.

Red Bull finds a place for Albon: “This is better for his career”

F1 grid of 2022

There are only a few places left for the Formula 1 starting field in 2022. There’s no official confirmation from Aston Martin yet, but the team will almost certainly stick with Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll. The only teams where there is still uncertainty are Haas and Alfa Romeo.

Albon to Williams: “Want to help them continue their journey in 2022”

There’s an internal battle going on at Haas, but with Mazepin Sr. as the main sponsor of Haas and Mick Schumacher as the best of the two, it seems unlikely that Haas would throw either of them out the door. Mick could still switch to Alfa Romeo, but a contract extension with Haas seems more likely.

Then there is only one real remaining place, namely one at Alfa Romeo, next to Valtteri Bottas.

Opportunity at Alfa Romeo

Valtteri Bottas has already been confirmed by Alfa Romeo this week, but the announcement of the second driver is still pending. Antonio Giovinazzi is still under contract but there are doubts about the Italian. For sponsor Alfa Romeo and Ferrari as an engine supplier, it’s nice to have an Italian for Alfa Romeo, but Frederic Vasseur might want to look further afield. There are many opportunities.

In addition to De Vries, Callum Ilott, the team’s current reserve driver, is also named. Guanyu Zhou would like to make the switch from Formula 2, and the name Nico Hülkenberg also remains stubbornly associated with Formula 1. Considerable competition for De Vries.

De Vries has a small chance

In addition to these names, there is also a great outsider. For example, what should you think of the clean talent Theo Pouchaire? At 18, he may still be too young and inexperienced for Formula 1, but the team will certainly take his arrival in 2023 into account. An annual contract for everyone who is brought to Alfa Romeo therefore only seems logical.

With Williams’ announcement, the chances of De Vries entering Formula 1 have decreased significantly. It hurts De Vries that his Formula 2 rival (Latifi) can keep his place at Williams with his moneybag, but De Vries must now hope for a chance with Vasseur’s team.
