LIVEBLOG: The third free practice for the United States GP 2021
The United States Grand Prix resumed in the 2012 season after a five-year hiatus. Since then, the game has been on the calendar every season, with the exception of the 2020 edition, which was canceled due to COVID-19. When the event returned in 2012, the venue changed. F1 visited Indianapolis, where the famous Indy500 takes place every year. However, in 2012 a deal was made with the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
Lewis Hamilton has won the United States Grand Prix six times. He celebrated his first win in 2007 in his debut season for McLaren. Aryton Senna and Michael Schumacher are both tied for five wins. All of Schumacher’s wins came in Indianapolis, while all of Senna’s wins were in previous venues in Phoenix and Detriot. Most of the United States Grand Prix has been held at Watkins Glen International Circuit (15 times), but the last F1 race was held there in 1975 when Niki Lauda took home the trophy. Only four drivers on the current grid have won races in America. Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas join Hamilton. In the constructors category, Lotus won the most with 10 wins. Ferrari is in second place with eight wins.
