F1 gossip: Alpine is considering B-Team to include young drivers | F1

– According to Formula 1 journalist Joe Saward, Alpine is considering starting a B-Team for its young drivers in the future.

The French team has a ton of promising young drivers, including the current F2 championship, Oscar Piastri.

With Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon banned for next year, people like Piastri will be absent.

– Piastri believes his chances for Alfa Romeo’s second season are practically zero.

“My chances of being in Formula 1 next year are extremely slim, I basically don’t think so,” he said in an interview on his website. “I know [Guanyu] Zhou is very closely associated with this seat and Giovinazzi is also there at the moment. I don’t think I’ll sit in this seat, I think it’s the only opportunity for next year. I would be happily surprised to sit in this seat next year.

“I think the most realistic goal and aim is to be the Alpine Reserve for next year because at the end of the day I am still very close to them and really appreciate their support and I think that will be reciprocated.”

“I think the most logical step is to try to become reserve drivers for next year and see what kind of program we can develop for next year and hopefully do some tests and FP1 sessions. And then try to get an F1 seat for the following year in 2023. “

On Mercedes’ YouTube channel, he said, “When we finally called Lewis it was because the lap timesheet we use for our predictions was telling us that it didn’t look good to make it through to the end of the race – that the pace of the car would be so bad by then that … we were looking for something that was somewhere near seventh or eighth place based on the way the tires were getting worse and worse. “

The Dutchman is 14 points ahead of Aston Martin’s Lucas Blakeley in the drivers’ standings, while Mercedes leads the team standings.
