“Even if we wanted to change, we can’t” – Aston Martin on their low arithmetic

"Even if we wanted to change, we can't"– Aston Martin on their low-rake predicament

“Even if we wanted to change, we can’t” – Aston Martin on their low-rake problem that threatened their aspirations for this year.

Aston Martin doesn’t look as fast as last year. The first race of the season was a disaster for them as they could only collect one point from a long trip to Bahrain.

The main problem with them is the new regulation, which does not seem to be suitable for their configuration with a low screen floor. Aston Martin boss Otmar Szafnauer says there is nothing they can do about it now.

“For the first time in my 24 years of sport in which we had to homologate the suspension due to Covid regulations, if you remember.”

“You can only change it if you’ve actually used your tokens for the suspension. Even if we wanted to drive a rear height of 150 millimeters, we can’t,” he said.

“I don’t know,” said Szafnauer when asked if there was a conspiracy or if land regulations were enacted to improve safety standards.

“I don’t know what Pirelli said about the tires, but right after the changes, Pirelli announced that they would also bring new designs.”

Aston Martin will not make any radical changes

The radical changes in aerodynamics in 2022 are a priority for Aston Martin. Instead of improving the current situation, Szafnauer has made it clear that his team will not take sudden action to improve the situation.

“The tradeoff has to be how much more we can gain this year at what cost for next year, and that’s really hard to predict,” he said. “At this point we will continue in parallel.”

The same words have been repeated by Mercedes who believe that there is no point in taking the high-rake approach as it could be harmful rather than constructive.
