The Netball Superleague opens doors to the spectators
Fans are allowed to enter London’s Copper Box Arena for the finals of the Netball Superleague season. A total of 1,000 spectators will have the opportunity to watch every game from May 28th.
The announcement came after the government confirmed that England would take another step out of the lockdown to allow a limited number of fans to attend indoor sporting events.
“The return of the fans is an exciting moment for clubs, athletes, coaches, volunteers and everyone who has worked hard behind the scenes so far to deliver the 2021 season,” said Fran Connolly, England Netball General Manager.
“As we take our first step to welcome fans back to elite netball, it is important to note that the safety of players, teams, staff and spectators continues to be our priority. Hence, strict COVID-19 protocols are in place during and during the ticket purchase apply on site to ensure the safety of everyone involved. “
Ellen White signs new contract with Manchester City
Star striker Ellen White put an end to career speculation when she signed a new two-year deal with Manchester City. She will now stay with the club until 2023.
The 32-year-old joined City in 2019 and has since played 55 games for the club, scoring 24 goals. This includes 15 in the season that has just ended.
About her contract extension, White said, “I’m glad that everything is sorted. I’ve really enjoyed the last two seasons and I’m excited to see what the future holds for this team and to be part of it.
“We have some really talented players here and I really enjoyed working with Gareth. I can’t wait to continue this journey for the next few years – it’s been a really easy decision for me.”
Jessica Hawkins announced as Aston Martin’s F1 Driver Ambassador
W-Series racing driver Jessica Hawkins has taken on a new role at Aston Martin. As the team’s driver ambassador, she will work with Sebastian Vettel, Lance Stroll and the official reserve driver Nico Hülkenberg.
Hawkins, who was also a stunt driver for the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die, finished 11th in the 2019 W-Series Championship.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Lance Stroll, Sebastian Vettel, Nico Hulkenberg and the rest of the team,” said Hawkins. “While it will certainly be a lot of hard work, for me it is a dream come true. Plus, I’m definitely not afraid of hard work. “
“I would also like to pay tribute to and thank the W-Series. This is a brilliant championship, without which I would simply never have had the incredible chance to work in such a great Formula 1 team.”
Eni Aluko has been named Sports Director of Angel City
Former English and Chelsea legend Eni Aluko will take on the role of Sporting Director at Angel City after stepping down from the same position at Aston Villa.
Angel City, an NWSL expansion team, is co-owned by a number of successful women. These include tennis icon Serena Williams, Oscar winner Natalie Portman, US soccer legend Abby Wambach and Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner. The team will play in 2022.
“The opportunity to be the first sporting director to join the club was obvious and something I had to do,” said Aluko.
“To join a mostly female soccer team of icons I’ve loved and inspired, like Billie Jean King, Serena Williams, and Abby Wambach, the list is endless. I grew up admiring them [so] It was just a dream and a once in a lifetime moment for me. “
Jack Sullivan resigns as CEO of West Ham
Jack Sullivan, 21, son of West Ham joint chairman David Sullivan, will step down from his position as executive director on the women’s team.
He took on the role in 2017, overseeing West Ham’s successful bid in the Women’s Super League. They reached the 2019 FA Cup Final, where they lost to Manchester City and played in front of 25,000 fans at the London Stadium. However, this season West Ham had problems narrowly escaping relegation to the championship.
Director General Aidan Boxall will now take on greater responsibility in the day-to-day administration of women.
