Max Verstappen and Red Bull won their first race of the 2021 Formula 1 season at the Imola Grand Prix in 2021. The Dutchman had a pleasant afternoon in Imola, taking the checkered flag 22 seconds ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton .
It was an impressive performance by Verstappen. After dominating Bahrain and still not winning, victory at the Imola Grand Prix will be even sweeter for the Dutchman and Red Bull. This was Verstappen’s first win and podium in an Italian race. For the Red Bull engine manufacturer Honda, it was the first victory at Imola since 1991, a significant historic weekend for the team.
Despite an almost perfect Grand Prix from Imola, Verstappen did not get the additional point on the fastest lap. The DHL Fastest Lap Award went to Lewis Hamilton. The Brit put in a 1:16:702 on lap 60.
Aside from the fastest lap, Formula 1 also has an unofficial, no-point award, F1 driver of the day. The audience nominates the winner of this award. The driver of the day for the Imola Grand Prix was McLaren’s Lando Norris. The young British driver secured McLaren’s first podium of the 2021 season with P3.
