BWT remains sponsor of the Aston Martin F1 team

BWT remains sponsor of the Aston Martin F1 team

The Austrian water treatment company was replaced as title sponsor at Aston Martin this year, after a successful 2020 season with Racing Point, which brought Sergio Perez a victory at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

But with Aston Martin branding Racing Point for that season and switching to British Racing Greens, there was no room to continue the same deal as last year.

BWT had to evaluate how best to continue its Formula 1 efforts and it is believed it has looked at other options, including both Williams and Haas. In the end, however, it was decided against a tie-up with one of these two teams.

On Wednesday, the company put an end to speculation about its F1 plans by announcing it would remain as a partner of Aston Martin.

The team confirmed that while the color of the new Aston Martin will be green, the BWT logos will be featured on the car.

“During the look and feel of the new team, the brand new Aston Martin team paint job on Wednesday 3rd,” said the team.

BMW CEO Andreas Weißenbacher said: “I am proud to continue to support this wonderful team of people and to open a new chapter with the return of Aston Martin to Formula 1.

“Having had such a strong 2020 season for the team, we believe the years to come are very promising and we want to continue supporting this team on their way to the top of the grid.”

BWT had originally hoped to get into Formula 1 as a sponsor at Mercedes in 2017, but was only interested in being able to rename the entire car pink.

Since Mercedes was not ready to move away from its silver colors, a contract was instead signed between BWT and Force India as the main sponsor for this season.

In 2020, the company then appeared as the title sponsor of Racing Point.
