Bernard Cottrell died far too young at the age of 67 after a long battle of leukemia.

As the lynchpin of national racing in Great Britain, Bernard was Race Director of the British GT Championship from 2007 to 2017, Chairman of the BRSCC from 2002 to 2017, Race Director of the 750 Motor Club and much more as an official, senior statesman and secretary of all knowledge for the broader one Motorsport family.

Tributes flocked to remember his contribution over a long career that included him from marshaling to race director and industry leader.

Everyone at Motorsport UK is deeply saddened by the death of Bernard Cottrell. As a member of the Motor Sports Council, BRDC, 750 Motor Club, Race Director and Marshal, he dedicated his life to motorsport and we will miss it very much.

British GT Championship and SRO Motorsport Group:

The Intelligent Money British GT Championship and SRO Motorsports Group are deeply saddened by the death of Bernard Cottrell at the age of 67.

Bernard was one of the most popular, senior and senior members of the UK motorsport community and a regular in the British GT paddock thanks to his role as Championship Race Director (2007-2017) and BRSCC Chairman (2002-2017). .

An ongoing battle with leukemia forced Bernard to give up those roles in late 2017, but he kept an active presence in the sport he loved through his work for the 750 Motor Club and Motorsport UK.

The thoughts and prayers of the championship staff, most of whom have worked with Bernard for many years, are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

We at Britcar are very sad about the death of Bernard Cottrell, a very respected Senior Race Official for BRSCC / SRO – British GT & most recently Race Director of the 750 MotorClub, to name but a few!

He was a great help to James Tucker and me in building the first Britcar 24hr and was also a great source of knowledge for me in building the new Britcar!

Rest in Peace Bernhard Cottrell. Knew him way too well as I was in his office every 5 minutes, but I had massive respect for him and he shaped me as a driver. REST IN PEACE.

Bernard Cottrell responded to a Joe Saward tweet about Pierre Gasly in two typically generous words last month: “Nice guy”. He could have described himself – because he, Bernie, was a lovely guy too, and I’m very sad to hear the news that he has died. #RIPBernardCottrell
