Sebastian Vettel, who opened his points account at Aston Martin in Monaco, is confident about the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Unfortunately, his confidence wasn’t reflected in his on-track performance as he struggled to do fast laps in free practice in Baku.

In FP1, the four-time world champion only reached 15th place. Nothing improved for the German in the second session of the day, as he was still in 15th place on the time table.

After the session, Vettel said: “Most of the time I just have to get into a better rhythm earlier in the session, but I’m pretty confident now after doing a few more laps. It’s a tricky route that you just have to have – on the one hand, the self-confidence and on the other hand, to unleash yourself. “

“And I struggled a bit with that. But it’s good that we kept the car between the walls and not in the wall. And many laps, we have a good understanding of the car because we’ve tried something.
“So I would say we did our homework and now have to focus on the performance,” explained Vettel.

The German believes that trust in the car is the most important thing to tackle the tricky Baku circuit
The sixth race of the season took the paddock to Baku – another street circuit on this season’s calendar. Even if there are certain differences in the way the cars are driven in Monaco and Azerbaijan, Vettel relies on the Mercedes car for the upcoming race.
As quoted by PlanetF1, Vettel said, “Yes, obviously the specification you are using is very different. You drive a lot less wings than in Monaco and it will feel different due to the nature of the track.

“I think ultimately you need confidence in the car and also self-confidence to make the difference on a track like this.”

“You have the section around the old town, which is very winding, where you can gain or lose a lot of time, that will ultimately be the decisive factor,” concludes Vettel.
Let’s hope that the German can get the best out of the Aston Martin car in qualifying on Saturday. It was certainly nice to see a happy Seb return to Monaco so we hope he stays here!
