Aston Martin signs Merc Aero boss Blandin for 2022

Aston Martin has secured the services of Mercedes chief aerodynamicist Eric Blandin for another important appointment for the coming season.

Blandin (pictured above with Valtteri Bottas) was part of the aero teams at Red Bull and Ferrari before joining Mercedes in 2011 and was promoted to chief aerodynamicist in 2017. After more than a decade at Brackley – where he served on the team that won the last seven consecutive Drivers ‘and Constructors’ championships – Blandin will join Aston Martin in 2022 as Lawrence Stroll’s team continues its recruiting campaign.

“We can confirm that Eric Blandin will work for the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One team for the next year,” said an Aston Martin spokesman. “Its exact start date has not yet been determined. The transition from the Mercedes AMG F1 Team to us will be amicable. “

Aston Martin has already announced that Red Bull aerodynamics boss Dan Fallows will be hired as new technical director and Alfa Romeo chief designer Luca Furbatto as technical director.

The former Racing Point team has been renamed Aston Martin this year as Stroll seeks to transform it into a championship-competing team. Martin Whitmarsh joined the new Aston Martin Performance Technologies group as CEO in September, a move that could lead to current team boss Otmar Szafnauer joining Alpine.
