Aston Martin has sought a right to review Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification from the Hungarian Grand Prix and has opened the appeal process after “significant new evidence” was discovered.
After taking second place at the Hungaroring, the FIA was unable to get a liter of fuel from Vettel’s AMR21, as required by the regulations, but only 0.3 liters.

This resulted in Vettel being disqualified, which promoted Lewis Hamilton to second place behind the race winner at Alpine’s Esteban Ocon.
Aston Martin team boss Otmar Szafnauer stated at the time that 1.44 liters of fuel remained in the system that the FIA could not take due to a problem with the lift fuel pump.
This problem meant that at the end of the race, Vettel was forced to stop his car at Turn 12 on the in-lap.
After filing its appeal, Aston Martin had 96 hours to confirm whether it would formally protest – until Thursday, August 6, 10:14 p.m. – and has now decided to pursue a case.
In a team statement it says: “After finishing second on the road at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday 1st the race (a requirement according to the FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations).
“There was and is no indication that Vettel’s Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One ![]()
Team AMR21 car benefited from any performance benefit from the alleged violation or that it was deliberate.
“Since the team data showed that there was more than 1.0 liter of fuel in the car after the race – according to the data, 1.74 liters – the team immediately reserved the right to appeal and applied for a right of review in addition to the appeal process. as a result of the discovery of significant new evidence relevant to the sanction that was not available to it at the time of the FIA commissioners’ decision. “
