Aston Martin insists it followed Pirelli's F1 tire measures ahead of the Baku burst

Stroll fell from fourth on lap 29 of the Azerbaijan GP when he suffered a dramatic flat tire on the rear left tire, the first of two such incidents that overshadowed a crazy race in Baku.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen lost the lead of the race due to a similarly frightening mistake at 200 mph on the long Baku main straight.

F1 tire supplier Pirelli completed its investigation and released its results on Tuesday stating that both tires suffered “a circumferential break on the inner sidewall” which is “related to the tire’s running conditions”.

Pirelli’s early theory that debris was to blame was ultimately wrong, while the failures weren’t caused by fatigue either.

Red Bull issued a statement Tuesday following the investigation confirming that “no car fault was found” and insisting that it follow Pirelli tire parameters “at all times”.

Aston Martin released an almost identical statement on Wednesday that read: “Following the tire problem on Lance Stroll’s car on lap 29 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, we worked with the FIA and Pirelli during their investigation.

“We can confirm that there was no car fault that led to the tire failure.

“The team has always operated its tires within the parameters prescribed by Pirelli and will continue to do so.”

Although Pirelli did not blame the teams directly for the events in Baku, the FIA has issued a technical guideline that will impose new tire measures from the French Grand Prix this weekend in Paul Ricard.

In addition to the usual minimum starting pressure, Pirelli also sets a minimum pressure for the tires after driving on the track.

Throughout the race weekend, the cars are randomly checked to ensure that the teams are complying with all parameters.
