The Austrian water treatment company was replaced this year as the title sponsor of the newly renamed Aston Martin squad after a successful 2020 season with Racing Point, which won the Sakhir Grand Prix with Sergio Perez.
But with the British sports car maker severing ties with Red Bull and taking over the branding from Racing Point, there was no leeway for BWT to continue the same deal it did last year.
The company had to evaluate how best to continue its efforts in F1 and it is believed it has looked for other options with rival F1 teams before ending speculation about its F1 plans on Wednesday with the announcement as a partner of. to stay Aston Martin.
The team confirmed that while the color of the new Aston Martin will be British Racing Green, the BWT logos will be featured on the car.
A team statement reads: “Although the look and feel of the new team, which will be released on Wednesday 3rd, will remain a feature of the brand new Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One ![]()
team livery.”
BWT CEO Andreas Weissenbacher said: “I am proud to continue to support this wonderful team and to open a new chapter with the return of Aston Martin to Formula 1.
“Having had such a strong 2020 season for the team, we believe the years to come are very promising and we want to continue supporting this team on their way to the top of the grid.”
BWT had originally hoped to get into Formula 1 as a sponsor at Mercedes in 2017, but was only interested in being able to rename the entire car pink.
With Mercedes unwilling to move away from its silver hues, a deal was instead struck between BWT and the Silverstone team, known at the time as Force India, as the main sponsor for that season.
In 2020, the company then appeared as the title sponsor of Racing Point.
