  • Aston Martin may switch to green livery to match the British automaker
  • The new title sponsorship would be the third in three years

According to German Motorsport Total, Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team is in advanced negotiations with the service company Cognizant about a naming contract before the 2021 season.

The team, renamed from Racing Point next year, had Best Water Technology (BWT) as the title sponsor for 2020. After working with Racing Point since 2017, the Austrian water technology provider replaced the gaming company SportPesa, which had moved away from its business Deal after a lonely year in sports.

While the report doesn’t specify what the potential Cognizant deal would mean for BWT, a new title sponsor, the third in as many seasons for the team, would mark a fresh start for Aston Martin ahead of the next campaign. Earlier this year, the team announced that they would switch to their new nickname after major stakeholder Lawrence Stroll acquired a 20 percent stake in the luxury automaker.

The Canadian billionaire, whose son Lance drives the team, heads a consortium that will pump a reported British £ 182 million ($ 247 million) into the company, with the remainder coming from issuing new shares to existing investors.

Since BWT may not be in the picture for 2021, Aston Martin could also switch to the legendary British racing color green for its new Formula 1 vehicles. Due to the team’s contract with BWT, they had a striking pink paintwork.

On the track, McLaren relegated the team to third place in the McLaren Formula 1 constructors’ championship at the season-end Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The difference in prize money between third and fourth place is reportedly in the £ 4 million (US $ 5.4 million) region.
