Aston Martin design director Miles Nürnberger left the British brand after 13 years to take on a similar role at Dacia.
Nürnberger joined Aston in January 2008 as Design Manager after working for Ford’s luxury brand Lincoln in the USA from 2000 to 2003 and from then until 2007 as a senior designer for Citroën and Peugeot.
While at Gaydon, his main focus was on exterior design, with recent work such as the company’s groundbreaking DBX SUV, the Valkyrie hypercar and the two Lagonda Vision EV concepts.
He was also responsible for the design of the DB11 Coupé together with his partner Leighanne Earley, who also works in Aston Martin’s design department. More recently, he has written the one-off Victor Coupe and the limited-edition Vantage-based V12 Speedster.
His departure from Aston Martin comes when the company starts a radical expansion and electrification program under the new CEO, ex-AMG boss Tobias Moers.
One reason for Nürnberger’s Switch was not officially given.
In his new position as Design Director at Renault’s own value brand Dacia, he will report to Group Design Director Laurens van den Acker as the broader company advances with the radical transformation strategy “Renaulution”, which was launched earlier this year CEO Luca de Meo was described.
As of September 1, he will take over from Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, who left his position in April of this year after less than 12 months and is now in charge of design at Alfa Romeo.
Nürnberger will be responsible for adapting the robust Bigster SUV concept, Dacia’s largest model to date, for production by 2025. Two more new models have been promised by the Romanian company, but their positioning remains under lock and key.
Van den Acker said of Nürnberger’s appointment: “We are very pleased to welcome Miles Nürnberger to our team at such an exciting time for the Dacia brand.
“Miles is a renowned designer who has inspired many with his work at Aston Martin. His experience and passion for building strong brands through design will be of great benefit to Dacia and will help us project Dacia into the future. “
