After a seven-year absence from the premier class of motorsport, former McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has joined the Aston Martin F1 team as Group Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Performance Technologies.

During his 25 years at McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh became one of the largest Formula 1 companies. In 2008, the 63-year-old succeeded Ron Dennis in the Wokinger team as team principal.
After leaving McLaren in 2014, Martin was mainly in the America’s Cup with Ben Ainslie Racing, but is now returning to Formula 1 with the Silverstone-based team.

During the team boss conference before the Turkish Grand Prix, when asked what the role of Martin Whitmarsh will be and whether he will come to all the races, Otmar Szafnauer replied: “He is Group CEO, which by definition means you have a bigger one Have a role and a broader role. “

“He will come to a few races. I think he’ll come to Austin (United States Grand Prix) and then maybe another race this year and then a couple of years to come, ”concluded the Aston Martin team principal.
Sebastian Vettel welcomes Martin Whitmarsh
Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is delighted with Martin Whitmarsh, who has worked with several famous drivers and won championship titles with Lewis Hamilton, Mika Häkkinen and Ayrton Senna.

“I’ve known Martin since he left. I started more or less in Formula 1. I’ve never worked with him before and I don’t know him well enough to be able to judge. I think we have to be open-minded, “said Sebastian Vettel.
