Aston Martin has continued its fast-paced recruitment program, announcing on Thursday morning that ex-Red Bull designer Andrew Alessi has been named Head of Technical Operations – the Silverstone team’s second major addition to the Red Bull ranks last week.
Alessi, who has several years of experience in Red Bull’s aerodynamics department, joins Aston Martin today, July 1st, as part of a major technical transformation.
“Two weeks ago we announced the hiring of Luca Furbatto as our new Engineering Director, who will start working for us in due course. Last week also announced the imminent arrival of Dan Fallows as our new Technical Director,” said Aston Martin F1 CEO Otmar Szafnauer.
“Today, Andrew Alessi joins our impressive list of senior technical / engineering positions as Head of Technical Operations. We’re a great team and it always has been. “
Aston Martin promoted former technical director Andrew Green to chief technical officer in June, saying their hiring and structure approach means they are competing with the best teams.
Alessi is said to have made a “significant contribution” to Red Bull’s aero division before moving to Aston Martin.
“Like everyone in and around Formula 1, I saw the obvious ambition of the team I’m joining and was impressed with how it is now being led by Lawrence Stroll, and I’m really looking forward to working with Otmar Szafnauer and the very competent ones technology and engineering-oriented members of the senior management team, “said Alessi before the Austrian GP.
“Now is a fantastic time to join a rapidly growing team and I am ready to jump right in to contribute to the significant aerodynamic and operational improvements we need to consistently win the future.”
