Aston Martin and Mercedes will share the safety car supply RaceFans in 2021

Safety Car, Istanbul Park, 2020

The F1 safety and medical vehicles will be supplied by Aston Martin for more than 50% of the races of the 2021 season.

RaceFans expects Aston Martin to have signed a contract for the delivery of the safety and ambulance cars for 12 of the 23 races planned for the next season.

A reliable source said the existing Mercedes safety and ambulance cars will not be scrapped and will be used in eleven races, with Aston Martin giving preference to which weekends they will deliver their cars for.

It is assumed that the decision will be determined by the markets. Aston Martin is expected to pick countries where they have bigger interests, while Mercedes will deliver races like the Brazilian Grand Prix where Aston Martin has a smaller market share.

The Aston Safety Car is believed to be a Vantage. Race fans understand the medical car in races where Aston Martin will supply the cars will be a DBX that uses the same four-liter V8 engine as the current AMG GT R cars.

The Daimler group, which owns Mercedes Benz, recently has a 20% stake in Aston Martin.

An Aston Martin spokesman declined to comment on whether they would deliver the cars, saying, “As manufacturers, we’re extremely excited and focused on our upcoming return to Formula 1 as a full factory team, for the first time since more than 60 years in 2021. “
