
Sebastian Vettel recently initiated a helmet exchange with Alpine racing driver Fernando Alonso. Now the German driver has initiated another helmet exchange, this time with F1 legend Alain Prost. This is not the first time the Aston Martin driver has swapped lids with other drivers.

Others were former rival Lewis Hamilton and former teammate Kimi Raikkonen. The Finnish veteran even joked that it was okay for Vettel to drop the helmet because it was a “fake” one. Meanwhile, the exchange between Hamilton and Vettel was a slightly more serious matter and underlined the mutual respect.

After all, the lid swap between him and Alonso was a more casual affair and an acknowledgment of their rivalry. One thing is for sure, Sebastian Vettel loves his helmets and that was evident even in his early F1 days.

When he drove for Red Bull, Vettel was notorious for developing different helmet models. Unfortunately, helmet obsession reached such a stage that the FIA had to impose a rule against many helmet changes.
Now Sebastian Vettel seems to have found a new hobby and this one is more harmless. Granted, helmet swapping isn’t really common in Formula 1, but some racing drivers do.

This is practically equivalent to swapping football players’ shirts at the end of a game. The action is pretty symbolic as it means a moment of respect between two rivals. At least Vettel can be happy that he can finally get his hands on a couple of colorful helmets.
Even if Alain Prost isn’t the first rider to swap helmets, he certainly won’t be the last. Without a doubt, Sebastian Vettel will try his luck with other drivers and possibly other F1 legends to swap covers.
