In the run-up to the Mexican GP weekend in 2021, Aston Martin F1 team drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll analyzed their expectations on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez race track. In the run-up to the race weekend, the two drivers spoke about their preparations and key factors that will contribute to a strong race weekend.

At the USGP weekend, which did not start very well for the two Aston Martin drivers, Vettel took a single point and finished tenth. Meanwhile, Stroll ended up in 12th place outside of the points. The four-time German world champion had a complete engine and component swap before the race and ended up in 18th place on the grid.

Looking ahead to the Mexican race weekend, the senior Aston Martin driver said:

“I’ve always enjoyed coming to the Mexican Grand Prix. The fans are so passionate and the round is really a challenge, so I’m looking forward to getting started. “

Vettel expressed his expectations for the weekend and said:

“We want to pick up where we left off in the USA and build on a number of points. Good preparation and good reaction are crucial, as tire performance is crucial and the race can be interrupted by safety cars and virtual safety cars. “/> Aston Martin F1 Team’s Lance Stroll speaks at the drivers press conference ahead of the 2021 USGP in Austin, Texas. While Vettel has already driven five times at the Mexican venue, Stroll has less experience on this route as he only drove there three times. Regarding the break between the two weekends, the junior Aston Martin driver said:

“It was good to have the week between the US and the Mexican Grand Prix to sit back and come back stronger.”

Looking back on the past race weekend, Stroll said:

“Although our US GP didn’t go quite according to plan, we showed a good race pace on Sunday. So the goal is to qualify well and fight for points in the race.”

Adding to his expectations at the Mexican GP:

“It’s a pretty short lap in Mexico, but the long straights offer plenty of slipstream and exciting races.” Buenos días, México!

Though Aston Martin F1 has not confirmed engine penalties for the race weekend, Stroll, still on its third engine, is expected to switch to a fourth in Mexico. With Vettel’s engine swap being carried out in Austin, there is speculation suggesting a similar swap for their second driver this weekend as Brazil is considered an unsuitable place for engine swaps or penalties.

The team from Silverstone is currently seventh in the constructors’ championship with 62 points. In the drivers’ standings, Vettel is 12th with 36 points and Stroll is 13th with 26 points.
