What is behind the separation of Sauber and Alfa Romeo from Andretti?

The rumor mill about the alleged takeover of Alfa Romeo by Andretti Autosport has been in full swing for the past few weeks, but the deal now appears to have been dropped for good. The parties were reportedly unable to agree on the price tag, but according to the Italian subsidiary of Motorsport.com, there is more to the split.

Rausing would demand guarantees for the future, not just for the Formula 1 team, but for the entire Sauber Group, the organization that runs the Alfa Romeo F1 team. The gap between the two parties brings Colton Herta’s chances in Formula 1 to an abrupt end. Instead of Kimi Raikkonen, he was supposed to take part in the first free practice session in Austin, but that didn’t happen.

Who still has a chance for the second seat at Alfa Romeo?

The previous company structure will therefore be retained for the time being. The big question now is who will be the second driver alongside Valtteri Bottas. Herta can be canceled after the failed Andretti deal, so who is left?

There were rumors that Guanyu Zhou would be the preferred candidate for the last remaining Formula 1 place. However, Antonio Giovinazzi would still have a chance to keep his place. Oscar Piastri is also a possibility, although it seems unlikely that he will be. The decision is said to be made somewhere around the Brazilian Grand Prix.
