Kimi Raikkonen has been in the Formula 1 scene for more than two decades. Since 2014 he has been driving the number 7 of his car during his tenure with Ferrari and now with Alfa Romeo. Whenever he talked about why he chose number 7 in previous interviews, he always claimed that he had that number in 2013 and saw no reason to change it.

In a recent interview, the silent Finn said simply, “We had to pick a number and I’m recording that. There was a chance of # 6 because I won the championship with it. I knew that [Nico] Rosberg wanted it because his dad won the championship with it, so I’ll just keep what I had and that was good for me. “
At 41, Raikkonen is a veteran in Formula 1 circles. However, he has proven many times that he still has what it takes to be quick on the track. The Finn showed flashes of his brilliance on the track in 2020 and sometimes found himself well in the points. During the Portuguese Grand Prix, he came close to a podium at the start before withdrawing the contract.

What is in the future for Kimi Raikkonen?
One of his most important tasks will of course be the development of the Alfa Romeo. He can also act as a mentor for his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi.
While many may have expected long ago that Raikkonen would retire, he continues to brave the odds and is still an intrepid soldier. Age factor is also another reason why his contract renewals only last one year at a time.

At the moment, Kimi Raikkonen just has to focus on doing the best he can. If he can continue to bring the results and build Giovinazzi, it will be a win-win for Alfa Romeo. The Finnish driver’s two decades of experience will also be helpful in making valuable contributions to the development of the car.
