F1 veteran Kimi Raikkonen is known for his “don’t care” attitude in Formula 1. In qualifying for the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna, the Finn unleashed it again. This time cameras spotted the 41-year-old winking forty times in his Alfa Romeo F1 car. Granted, his visor was down, making it difficult to tell if he was sleeping or concentrating.

However, given the fact that his head wasn’t moving, there was a good chance it was. Further evidence showed that his head was leaning against the side of the cockpit. In the end, Raikkonen was awakened a bit rude when his race engineer signed up for a radio check. Fortunately, the Finnish driver managed to respond on the radio and prepare for his qualifying run.

This is not the first time Raikkonen has done this stunt. Back in 2001, when he was making his F1 debut, he was caught napping half an hour before the start of the race. Such behavior would not be tolerated on any other occasion or with any other person. However, since it is Kimi Raikkonen, Kimi is referred to as Kimi.
How did Kimi Raikkonen do in qualifying?
In contrast to his F1 debut when he finished sixth, the Finnish veteran starts in 16th place. In 2001 he started 13th, which is not too far away. So there’s a chance he’s trying to build positions during the race. His car is certainly capable of this when he finished 11th at the season opener in Bahrain.

One has to wonder where Raikkonen will end up in the Emilia Romagna GP. He also needs to keep an eye on where his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi will end up. To be honest, the 41-year-old would be foolish to think that he should have some drafts for the championship fight.
Instead, he focuses on developing the Alfa Romeo and looking after his teammate. Given that both of them have done well so far, they are doing a good job right now.
