Although Vettel qualified for the race from P8, he started with his three-place penalty from P11 together with his former teammate Charles Leclerc. Although the German was briefly in the points and followed a two-stop strategy, he did not pose a threat to the top 10 towards the end of the race.
In addition, the fall with Raikkonen meant that he did not finish the race. Vettel’s team-mate Lance Stroll ended a disappointing day for Aston Martin in P13.
Despite P16 in qualifying, Raikkonen made good progress in the first laps. However, the Alfa Romeo lacked the racing pace to score points as the crash summed up the Finn’s Sunday. The 41-year-old finally finished in P16, two places behind his team-mate Antonio Giovinazzi.
Where do Vettel, Raikkonen and their teams stand in the championship?
Vettel fell back to tenth place in the drivers’ standings after failing to make up his 30-point mark today. In contrast, his former Ferrari team-mate Raikkonen stayed in 15th place, despite only scoring one point in nine races.

While none of their teams scored points, Aston Martin fell four points behind AlphaTauri in the constructors’ championship. Alfa Romeo, on the other hand, remains eighth, just two points behind.
In the next race in two weeks, both drivers will need the gap to come back stronger. Vettel also hopes to return to the points in Aston Martin’s home race at Silverstone on July 18th.
