Veekay happy in IndyCar but would consider F1 move to face Verstappen

Rinus Veekay says he would like to stay NTT IndyCar Series for a long time and have not seriously thought about a change formula 1but he would consider it if he had the chance to fight Max Verstappen on the route.

Veekay, whose real name is Rinus van Kalmthoutcurrently competes in IndyCar Ed Carpenter Racing and last year took his first series win in the GMR Grand Prix around the course of the street at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Although his results faltered towards the end of the year, he had done enough to earn a second season with the team for 2022.

The Dutchman says that while Formula 1 was never at the top of his wish list, he would consider becoming either teammates or competitive rivals of his compatriot Verstappen, who won the World Drivers’ Championship for the first time in 2021.

And with people like Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta Both are linked to IndyCar’s move to Formula 1 in the near future. Veekay is another one connecting with the sport, although he’s definitely happy staying with IndyCar long-term and would only consider it if he gets a chance to fight Verstappen.

“If I get the chance to become Max Verstappen’s teammate or maybe Max Verstappen’s competitor in a top-flight team, then I will certainly think about it,” VeeKay told Dutch magazine Ziggo Sport. “But I’m not working on that at all right now.

“If I can drive IndyCar for the next 20 years and fight for the titles, then my life will be more than fulfilled.”
