His main rival in the constructors’ championship, Williams, was able to take 10 points away from the process, with George Russell second and Nicholas Latifi ninth. That double score means Williams has increased his lead over Alfa Romeo in the standings to 17 points, a void that is unlikely to be closed for the remainder of the season.
In a statement released on Monday, Alfa Romeo expressed disappointment with the way the FIA ensured that the event could be officially classified.
“The decision not to drive in these conditions was the right one to protect the safety of the drivers, the marshals and the spectators themselves,” said Alfa Romeo. “However, the situation would have been handled much more appropriately if we hadn’t had the ‘race’ we witnessed yesterday: this result hurts all of us, but especially the fans of the sport who didn’t get the show.” they came to see.
“We hope that we learned lessons yesterday that will improve the way we work in the future and put our sport’s supporters in the positions they deserve.
“Once again our sincere thanks go to all the fans – you really shone at Spa yesterday.”
