The Haas rookie put down a battle ride in Hungary when he left disappointment with his FP3 crash with a determined portrayal of engaging in a wheel-to-wheel battle with more experienced riders.
Schumacher benefited from the carnage in the first corner and ended up in 10th place in the early stages. The German was able to hold up Verstappen’s Red Bull for 10 laps before the title contender finally got through.
“I didn’t expect to be able to stop him that long, but I’m glad I got the chance to fight with the top guys,” said Schumacher.
“I fought with Max twice on the street and was able to [increase] my experiences in this case feel the pressure and don’t crack under pressure. I think it’s a really positive day for us. “

Although he ended up outside of the points, Schumacher said the experience gave the entire team some “light at the end of the tunnel” before the summer break.
“Of course I think that after a disappointing day there was a bit of light at the end of the tunnel for everyone [on Saturday]I think today was a very, very positive day, ”he added.
“Learned a lot, took a lot with me from here and a lot that everyone can look forward to during the summer break and when returning to Spa.”

In contrast, it was a frustrating day on the other side of the Haas garage when Nikita Mazepin was eliminated from Alfa Romeo in a pit lane collision with Kimi Raikkonen.
The Russian had to regret missing an opportunity, possibly capitalizing on a crazy race and getting his best ever result in Formula 1.
“It’s really annoying, that was a race I really wanted to be in,” said Mazepin. “Not just for me, but this race offered a lot of opportunities and my team really needs these opportunities.
“It’s a shame that other teams make mistakes and send cars out. It was obvious – I have to double stack, I can’t stop people in the pit lane so I have to go somewhere and I was ready to go to my pits and I couldn’t have turned back later and Alfa just came out and took my tire away.
“Could have been [a big result] but it won’t be. But I firmly believe that I have a long career in Formula 1 and this is really not the path I wanted to take the summer break, leaving this weekend tired, with a sore body and neck, missing laps and a deficiency result is very annoying. “
