Now he has turned his attention to Alfa Romeo and Williams, although a takeover of the former is more likely as Williams was taken over by US subsidiary Dorilton Capital last year and Alfa Romeo has an annual deal with Sauber Motorsport. That means Alfa Romeo can get out every year, which leaves Andretti Motorsports room to buy in.

Interestingly, Michael Andretti’s father Mario drove for the Alfa Romeo in the 1981 season. For Michael, there is a romantic motivation behind the desire to take over the Swiss team.
The problem Andretti might face in starting a new F1 team is the Concorde deal. The agreement provides for a $ 200 million buy-in fee for all new entrants who want to start a new team. Hence, acquiring an existing team is much cheaper.

“I would be happy if the team scores more points. We’ve put a lot of effort into the team, but the main reason we’re losing a bit of performance at the start of the season is because we’ve switched from January to 100 percent in 2022, ”said Vasseur.

“When I see the updates from the other teams, even if they all say they switched to the 2022 car, they have updates every single weekend! But when we made the decision, I knew that if you switched 100 percent to the next year’s car, you wouldn’t develop the 2021 car. And that’s the case. ”Concluded the Alfa Romeo team boss.
