F1 veteran Raikkonen drove into the pit lane after the bollard before realizing his mistake and returning to the track amid confusion when a red flag was hoisted in the final corner after Lance Stroll suffered a serious fall.
Although the Finn violated the FIA’s driving behavior, Raikkonen seemed to have little time to react to the red flag when he left the last corner and arrived at the pit lane entrance just a few moments after Stroll’s accident.
“The problem was like in Austria this year, I was pretty close to the line when the traffic light turned red,” said Raikkonen after qualifying.
“I don’t know, sometimes they want you to jump in the box, but if you’re still racing everything comes at the last minute so I don’t know what they’re going to say. I went slowly, so we’ll see. ”
