Qualifying is a disaster for Alfa Romeo – Motorsport Week

Qualifying is a disaster for Alfa Romeo - Motorsport Week

A typically succinct Kimi Raikkonen described qualifying as a “disaster” for Alfa Romeo, but is of the opinion that the team is not getting the most out of its C39.

Alfa Romeo was the slowest to qualify for the third event in a row and suffered another double Q1 knockout.

Kimi Raikkonen qualified as the slowest of the 20 drivers at the Hungaroring, while team-mate Antonio Giovinazzi was only 19 years old.

“It was obviously a disaster, but there are a lot of things we can do better and then of course we have to find a lot more speed in the car,” he said.

“Today was a disaster, but we are definitely not going to get the most out of what we have.

“Sure we’re not where we want to be, but I don’t think we’re doing each other favors either. Of course we have to do things better and improve them. “

Alfa Romeo showed a faster racing pace than a lap in Austria and Giovinazzi expressed the hope that the situation could repeat itself in Hungary.

“It was a very difficult day with a disappointing result,” said Giovinazzi. “We have a lot to do to save something from this weekend, but we have to see how the race goes tomorrow.

“The conditions are still uncertain, but we definitely need to understand what happened today.

“Starting from behind is not ideal, especially on a track where overtaking is not easy, but we can hope that we will have a better pace in the race than in Austria.”
