Kick, the budding streaming platform that aims to rival Twitter, has reached a significant milestone by securing a partnership with the Alfa Romeo F1 team. The platform was first introduced to the public last year by one of the top Twitch streamers, Tyler “Trainwreck” Niknam, who also announced his role as a non-owner advisor and non-exclusive streamer.

Kick’s origin is largely unknown, but it gained attention in December 2022 when Trainwreck took to Twitter to criticize several shortcomings of Twitch and announced his switch to the new streaming platform, Kick.com. In his detailed thread, Trainwreck highlighted Twitch’s unfavorable financial practices towards creators, stating that it takes the largest revenue cut of any live-streaming platform at 50% and that streamers receive only $2.50 per subscription, with even lower payouts for those in non-first -world countries. He also accused Twitch of breaking their promise of a 70/30 revenue split, claiming that the company couldn’t fulfill it.

Kick recently announced its creator program with a unique proposition: streamers will earn a flat rate per hour, regardless of audience size, which means that the rate is determined by various factors such as advertising CPMs, average viewers, engagement, and demographics. Trainwreck also stresses that the Creator Program’s hourly pay won’t substitute other income sources for streamers on Kick. The announcement caused a stir in the streaming community, with many taking to social media to express their approval. Now it has been reported that Kick has secured a partnership with the Alfa Romeo F1 team, further cementing its position in the industry.

As part of the partnership, Kick’s branding will be prominently displayed on the team’s C43 vehicle in selected races, offering a high-visibility platform for the streaming website’s brand. To further enhance the viewing experience, Kick may also host interactive streams with Alfa Romeo’s drivers, providing an opportunity for fans to connect with their favorite personalities and ask questions in real time. Kick’s bold marketing strategy reflects the company’s ambitious goal of making a formidable impact in the competitive arena of online streaming, rivaling the likes of established giants Twitch and YouTube.

Although Twitch experienced a decline in viewership in November and faced criticism over its recent decisions, it remains the dominant platform for live-streaming. While alternative services exist for streamers, Twitch has maintained its top position in the industry. For Kick to pose a challenge to this reigning giant, it will have to deliver and consistently meet the high expectations set by its competitors to claim the throne in the online streaming space.
