But eventually the ‘Prancing Horse’ chose McLaren’s Carlos Sainz to partner with Charles Leclerc. Giovinazzi will focus on performing for Alfa Romeo in the upcoming campaign.
In an interview, Giovinazzi stated: “It’s the dream [to drive for Ferrari] But of course I know that Carlos will be there for a few more years, and so will Charles. “

It’s great to feel the support from Ferrari, says Antonio Giovinazzi
“You never know what’s going to happen. Right now, I’m focusing on doing well here at Alfa Romeo. I know I’ll be racing for Alfa Romeo next season and my goal now is to be good with them and then we’ll see what will happen in 2022. “
Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott are also good candidates from the F2 division to fight for a possible Ferrari seat. For the time being, the Italian driver wants to continue to do a good job for his current team.

He continued: “I am part of this family too and it is great to feel the support from Ferrari. Now I drive for Alfa Romeo and I want to do the best job here so far. I’m sure I’m doing a good job here and then we’ll see what the future holds. “
Giovinazzi finished the 2020 season with a total of 4 F1 championship points
The 27-year-old showed his skills with limited resources by leading the team to three points. After a P9 in Austria, he later scored points at the Nürburgring and in Imola.

With a seasoned teammate in Kimi Raikkonen by his side, the Italian has certainly improved since his debut in 2017. In essence, he was reaching the maximum potential of an Alfa Romeo car that didn’t look impressive in qualifying or in the races.
So Ferrari might consider him if an opportunity arises. For now, however, Giovinazzi will repay the trust invested in him and aim to achieve similarly good results for the team in 2021.
