Here is the Alfa Romeo F1 car that Kimi Raikkonen will be driving in 2019

Alfa Romeo returned to Formula 1 in 2018 together with Sauber. The team took a low eighth place in the constructors’ championship.

However, there is new hope for 2019 as World Champion Kimi Raikkonen has joined the squad that will race as Alfa Romeo Racing for the new season. There’s also new driver Antonio Giovinazzi, who is close to his first full season in F1.

The two will drive the new Alfa Romeo C38, which was unveiled on Monday in a paint job that combines white and blue, partner Sauber’s traditional colors, with Alfa Romeo’s red. The unveiling took place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, where pre-season testing is currently underway.

Raikkonen was the first to try the new car, although his test of the C38 didn’t get off to the best start. On the first lap he got stuck in the gravel at turn 5.

The cars haven’t changed much from the previous season, although the aerodynamic elements have been simplified to allow for more competitive races. The organizers promise a lot more overtaking maneuvers.

In accordance with the new rules, the C38’s front wing is larger and extends further forward than the previous car, but it has also lost some of the more complex air as the endplates have been flattened and the number of under wing jets has been reduced from five to two . You will also find that the rear wing is taller, wider and simpler, which means increased aerodynamic drag and therefore increased strength of the DRS.

The units are similar to those of last year, i.e. a 1.6-liter turbocharged V-6 that works with two motor-generators – one on the drive train and the other integrated in the turbocharger. Alfa Romeo continues to source its engine from Ferrari, as do some of its road vehicles.

The teams are now preparing for the first race on the 2019 F1 calendar, the Australian Grand Prix on March 17th in Melbourne.
