With a record of 329 starts, Kimi Räikkönen is now officially the most experienced driver in the illustrious history of F1. Many expected that he would allow time for his career after the 2020 season. However, he will not only be at the start for the coming season, but may also extend his stay for 2022 despite the new technical regulations.
This season will officially part with the current cars. The long-awaited rules will redefine the car’s aerodynamic makeup to create a more spectacular wheel-to-wheel battle.
There may also be a movement in the driver market associated with some exodus. The 2007 World Champion will be 42 by then, and many in the F1 community believe he will be the favorite to say goodbye.
Team principal and CEO Frederic Vasseur, however, suggests a different outcome while holding his cards close to his chest. When asked if Kimi would stay for 2022, he pragmatically replied, “Yes, but we’ll deal with it one by one.
“We have to be realistic and focus on this year and see what happens next year. I don’t want to think about ’23 or ’24. Let’s do ’21 and then have the discussion as the season progresses. “

Kimi Raikkonen “committed and motivated” at Alfa Romeo F1
Ferrari Academy’s drivers, Callum Ilott and Robert Schwartzman, are the sport’s emerging talents. They were apparently fighting for Kimi’s racing seat. However, the team wanted to keep the Finn when he was ready to prepare for a hectic 23-race calendar.
“It is clear that we wanted to get Kimi on board. It was more of a motivational method for him, knowing that it was going to be difficult at some point, that’s for sure, ”said Vasseur.
