Although Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel was disqualified for a fuel violation after the race, the German was still listed in second place when the FIA published their “final race ranking” on Sunday evening.
The FIA has now reissued the final results of the Hungarian GP, with Vettel marked as disqualified after the error was discovered.
That means everyone under Vettel moves up one position and collects additional points, with Hamilton moving up to second and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to third on the podium.
Hamilton’s P2 placement means that the seven-time world champion is now eight points ahead of title rival Max Verstappen, who has moved up to ninth place himself.
