Giovinazzi swears in the last few races with Alfa. stay professional

Alfa Romeo announced earlier this week that Giovinazzi will be leaving the team at the end of the season, with Formula 2 title contender Guanyu Zhou taking his place.

To confirm his departure from the team, Giovinazzi wrote on social media that “when money rules, it can be ruthless,” hinting at the financial support Zhou will bring next year.

This led to criticism from Vasseur, who said this week with Will Buxton that he was “not a huge fan of that kind of attitude” and noted the opportunity that Alfa Romeo Giovinazzi had presented in Formula 1.

In a speech in Qatar on Thursday, Giovinazzi announced that he did not need to speak to Vasseur about the post as his team principal was not on the track yet.

But he underscored his conviction that he had acted professionally and vowed to do the same with the team in his last three races.

“I think I’ve been professional for the last few years and will be professional in the last few races,” said Giovinazzi.

“So [I have] nothing to add to be honest. I’m happy with myself and I think I feel like I’ve been professional for the past few years and will be in the last three races. “

After leaving the team, Giovinazzi will move to Formula E after signing with Dragon for the upcoming campaign.

But the Italian was hoping that through his connections with Ferrari, possibly as a reserve driver, he would still be involved in Formula 1, adding that he was interested in Ferrari’s upcoming hypercar program in the World Endurance Championship.

“Hypercar will continue in 2023, so there is still no news,” said Giovinazzi when asked about a possible change to the sports car program.

“But so far I know I’ll do FE and it’s a great championship, I’ll enjoy it.

“We’re also trying to stay here, like a third driver at Ferrari. And see what will happen in 2022.

“Definitely [WEC] is a championship that I would like to join. But it’s too early to know and decide. “
