Alfa Romeo announced Monday that it has signed Valtteri Bottas to replace the resigned Kimi Raikkonen, leaving the Finn’s identity open next season as the biggest remaining question mark until 2022.
Giovinazzi is out of the contract at the end of the year and Alfa Romeo is no longer contractually obliged to include a member of the Ferrari Academy Driver in its squad.
There is increasing talk of Alpine junior and Formula 2 front runner Guanyu Zhou sitting firmly in the frame of the seat while other drivers, including Nyck de Vries, are connected, despite the connection of the newly crowned Formula E world champion to Mercedes could prove problematic.
Before his home race, the Italian Grand Prix, Giovinazzi emphasized that he had not yet been given any indications of his future.

When asked if there was a deadline for the decision, Giovinazzi replied: “Not really, to be honest. Of course I want to know as soon as possible, but it’s not my choice.

Giovinazzi has faced uncertainty about his future in each of his three Formula 1 campaigns due to his year-to-year contracts.
“Of course it’s been the same September for my part for the past three years,” he said. “There were always some rumors for the next year.
“For me, I don’t want to focus so much on it because it just loses energy. I want to focus more on performance and try to do my best.
“As I often say, it’s not my choice and whatever happens will happen. My goal is to be satisfied with myself and see what happens. “
A puncture destroyed Giovinazzi’s chance of scoring at Zandvoort after his best qualifying result of all time when he finished seventh on the grid.
Although he has only scored one point so far with P10 in Monaco in 2021, Giovinazzi is pleased with his efforts this year.
“I’m not the person I will be giving a voice to myself, but to be honest, I am very happy with my qualifications compared to Kimi,” he said.
“In the race we often had a bit of bad luck, to be honest, with pit stops and everything. But yes, for me I do my best and am therefore quite satisfied with my development.
“From last year and also compared to two years ago, so I’m really happy with myself and will continue to give 110 percent to give the team the best result and then we’ll see what happens.”
