After reaching Q2, Guanyu Zhou bet on slick tires to try to climb into Q3 in Singapore, but it didn’t pay off. Finally 15th in the qualifying session, the Alfa Romeo F1 driver regretted this bad choice but was still satisfied with the level of his C42.
« Looking back, it wasn’t the right tire to use. The track was pretty much dry except for three or four corners, but those corners were unfortunately wet. I think we had a chance to do well today. today, but there was a yellow flag on my first lap in Q2 and then I didn’t improve on my time on intermediate tires. »
« We were hoping for a hard-fought qualifying session in the dry, and we’ll see what weather we get in the race. We don’t seem to be suffering here like we have on other circuits. I’m happy because it’s two completely different tracks. »
Valtteri Bottas meanwhile was knocked out in Q1 and believes he and his team were trapped by the rapidly changing conditions.
« Obviously I’m disappointed. It’s hard to overtake on this circuit, so it’s never nice to start from that far. But it was all about timing today and I think we got it wrong in Q1. And when I realized that it would have been better to put on a new set of tyres, it was already too late. »
« It was tricky for us in the rain, but it was much better in the dry. So our car seems to prefer dry conditions. »
