Ferrari F1 graduate Callum Ilott speaks about his exclusion from the Red Bull Driver Academy

Callum Ilott has been a member of the Ferrari Junior Academy since 2017 and is currently taking part in the Endurance Cup and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Before that, however, he had a year-long stay at the Red Bull Junior Academy. The Milton Keynes team saw a lot of potential in the 22-year-old and signed him in 2015 before making his Formula 3 debut.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned for Callum Ilott as he finished fourth in the championship without recording a single win. As a result, the young Briton was dismissed from the Austrian academy at the end of the year.

What did Callum Ilott say?

Red Bull has produced many brilliant talents over the years, including four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, current championship leader Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz and the list goes on and on. But unfortunately the young Brit driver was not a great success at the Austrian academy.

About his time at the Red Bull Academy, he told Autosport: “Red Bull has had a lot of success with its juniors. “It just doesn’t work for everyone. Everyone is just different. “

After Ilott was deposed by Red Bull, he joined the Ferrari driver academy. The Briton got his faith from the team from Maranello, which helped him to develop further.

“It had to be like that. You get a certain position and you have to make the most of it, ”said Callum Ilott.

Ilott’s future in Formula 1

The 22-year-old was runner-up in the Formula 2 championship last year with three wins and lost to today’s Haas driver Mick Schumacher.

Callum Ilott is currently a test driver for Ferrari and a test and reserve driver for Alfa Romeo. The Brit, who is moving up from the Ferrari Academy, is hoping for a seat with the Maranello team, but the chances of that are pretty slim.

The Ferrari duo has been excellent this season. Both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc each secured a podium this season. Leclerc also had the chance to win Ferrari’s first win, but despite the Monegasken’s impressive resilience, Lewis Hamilton overtook him just three laps to go.
