Ex-F1 driver scolds Bottas and questions Hamilton’s “heart” at Mercedes

Did this Mercedes F1 setup reveal the reason for the opposing fortunes of Hamilton & Bottas?

The Mexico City Grand Prix did not go as Mercedes had hoped. The German team surprised everyone with a 1-2 shock on the grid after Saturday’s qualifying. However, he could not use that after Verstappen had overtaken both Mercedes vehicles in Turn 1. Former F1 driver Timo Glock mentioned that the team can no longer rely on Valtteri Bottas. Glock stated that Bottas did not support his teammate Lewis Hamilton despite his pole position. he also suggested that Sergio Perez is a better winger at the moment compared to Bottas.

Valtteri Bottas no longer has the motivation to support Lewis Hamilton: Timo Glock

As reported by Sky. Sports. De, the German driver had previously helped secure Lewis Hamilton his first world title. However, he stated that the Finn, who is tied to Alfa Romeo, no longer has the motivation to help the Briton in 2021.

“Lewis Hamilton has a good car, of course. But that’s not good enough to beat Red Bull and Max. In my opinion, the problem with Mercedes is that Valtteri Bottas no longer has the motivation to continue to support Lewis unreservedly, ”said Glocke.

“That was clear to me. Sure, it’s always easy to tell from the outside. But I think they discussed the strategy at Mercedes relatively clearly in advance and ran through umpteen scenarios for the start. Valtteri was more focused on Lewis in this case, which I didn’t understand.

I think his job was to do everything in his power against Max to pave the way for Lewis to be ahead on the corner. That didn’t work at all. I find it hard to believe that Mercedes can still rely on Valtteri. Red Bull has a clearer way of betting on Sergio Perez. He showed that. He took his heart out to help up front and take the points away from Lewis, ”said the former F1 driver.

With only 4 races to go, Mercedes needs Bottas to contribute as much as possible to beat its rivals. The team would try to recover in Brazil and get back to winning ways.
