Details on the electric drive of the Peugeot E-308 appear, on sale in 2023

Autocar reports that the Peugeot e-308, the all-electric version of its new C-segment offering, will hit the market sometime in 2023. Production is scheduled to start in July next year, but a lot can happen until then. The publication contains more information than that detailing the powertrain and how the new EV differs from the e-208 already featured in the automaker’s range.

The e-308 will be equipped with a 54-kilowatt-hour battery, which is 4 kWh larger than the battery of the e-208, with a usable capacity of 50 kWh. However, the improved battery technology will allow the model to offer a range of up to 400 kilometers, which we believe has been achieved in Europe’s forgiving WLTP cycle. Autocar also reports that the electric vehicle will deliver 154 horsepower (114 kilowatts) and 199 pound-feet (269 newton meters) of torque sent to the front wheels.

The fully electric drive train will arrive in both the 308 hatch and the SW wagon variant. Peugeot will stow the batteries under the seats and in the floor, while the rest of the powertrain hardware is hidden under the hood. Inside, the rear cargo space will be the same as that of the 308 plug-in hybrid, and Peugeot should offer its customers the same sleek and tech-packed cabin that is offered in the model, which should include a 100-kilowatt fast-charging function.

Deliveries of the E-308 will begin after production starts next July, and Peugeot will release pricing information for the new model closer to its sales date. It will be interesting to see where it falls in comparison to the plug-in hybrid and internal combustion engine variants. Agnès Tesson-Faget, Peugeot’s project manager for the 308 brand, told the release that the company expects the e-308 to account for at least 20 percent of the model’s sales when it hits dealerships. The 308 plug-in hybrid already accounts for more than 20 percent of 308 sales, but we’ll have to wait more than a year to see if that becomes a reality.
