Antonio Giovinazzi says he hasn’t thought about what he would do in 2022 if he doesn’t keep his place at the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN team for the fourth time in a row.
The only unconfirmed seat on the formula 1 The starting spot for next season is with Alfa Romeo and Giovinazzi is among those hoping to drive alongside Finn Valtteri Bottas, who joins the team for 2022 in place of the departing player Kimi Raikkonen.
FIA Formula 2 leader Guanyuzhou is rumored to be the front runner for the seat with which Alpine Academy Driver believed to have put significant funding behind him to ensure he becomes the first full-time Chinese driver in Formula One. Another Formula 2 star, the Frenchman Theo Pourchaire, is already part of Sauber Junior Team and has also been linked to a rapid rise to Formula One.
However, Alfa Romeo have given no indication of their future line-up and Giovinazzi heads into the final stages of the 2021 season knowing he must do as good a job as possible to remain in the race for the seat.
“For now, to be honest, I want to focus on keeping that place in Formula 1,” Giovinazzi told Motorsport.com. Then, worst case scenario, I would start thinking about it for next year.
“But for now I just want to focus on my job here in Formula 1 and try to keep my place. The only thing I can do is just ride and get more points and I hope that’s enough.”
Should he not be given the nod, Giovinazzi’s future outside of Formula 1 should still be linked to Ferrari, with the Italian being a long-time member of their team.
This could mean a move to their sports car team and a return to endurance racing, something Giovinazzi has witnessed 24 Hours of Le Mans already in 2018 in a Ferrari 488 GTE Evo for AF Corse Next Tony Wilander and Pipo Derani, the trio finished fifth in the GTE Pro class.
